The songs we grew up with are sometimes the ones that leave the strongest memories.
The years 1967 to 1974 were somewhat of a musical turning point, as song styles graduated from early rock & roll and crooners into something more adventurous, even occasionally psychedelic. Those eight years before disco hit the charts brought a new sound in pop songs, bolder rock songs and the birth of concept albums.
These years are the focus of a new web site called Bang a Gong. Fans of early 70s glam rockers T Rex will understand the title.
As well as clips, there is some info about the songs and the charts on which they appeared.
The site and its associated Facebook page are only a week old but they are already attracting a lot of attention, such was the impact of artists like The Beatles, then John, Paul, George and Ringo solo or with their new bands. Also Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, The Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel and hundreds more.
The site is evolving with new songs and other material being added daily, so it should be bookmarked for regular visits. The Facebook page is a good way to keep up with the latest additions.
Bang a Gong is a project of Voyage Media which also produces this site, Gippsland Goodness.
