Although it has already been operating, The Zone was officially opened today in Morwell.
Latrobe Youth Space now has a permanent home at The Zone for its many programs and activities that have attracted more than 20,000 young people since 2017.
The state government funded their move to the purpose-built youth services hub on Princes Drive Morwell, to deliver services connecting young people to employment, training and community life in the Latrobe Valley.
Programs run out of Latrobe Youth Space include a young parents’ group, a rainbow club for LGBTIQ+ young people, learner driver training for recently arrived young people, and sport and recreation activities.
Latrobe Youth Space is managed by a consortium of local youth service organisations to best meet the needs of young people living in the Latrobe Valley:
• Baw Baw Latrobe Local Learning Employment Network
• Berry Street
• Centre For Multicultural Youth
• Federation University – Gippsland
• Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault
• Interchange Gippsland
• Kindred Spirits Foundation
• Latrobe Youth Choices
• Lifeline Gippsland
• Skills and Jobs Centre (TAFE Gippsland)
• The Gathering Place
• Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency
• Youth Insearch
• Quantum Support Services
It is advised by a youth governance committee to ensure its programs and supports are tailored to the young people it services.
