It’s official – Lakes Entrance is Victoria’s second top tourism town, being awarded a Silver medal by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC).
Winners in the inaugural Top Tourism Town Awards have been announced and Lakes Entrance was beaten only by Ballarat for the main award.
Lakes Entrance was a finalist in the main Top Tourism Town category and three other Gippsland towns were on the short list for the Top Small Tourism Town Award – Mallacoota, Paynesville and San Remo. That was won by Port Fairy.
Three of Gippsland’s four finalists are in East Gippsland, which was exciting for Mayor Mendy Urie, especially for Lakes Entrance to be the Silver winner in the main category.
“Tourists across the nation have long known that Lakes Entrance is an unbeatable holiday spot. I’m so pleased to see this East Gippsland jewel given an accolade,” Cr Urie said.
“Lakes Entrance and surrounds has it all – stunning beaches, pristine lakes, tracks and trails, fabulous seafood, wineries and breweries, and great weather that invites you to enjoy a day outside.”
Voting was conducted by judges selected by VTIC and the general public, with more than 23,000 Victorians casting votes for the finalists.
Just in time for the Top Tourism Town Awards, Council and EGMI have launched a showcase of all that the region has to offer visitors and locals. To plan your next East Gippsland travel adventure, head to the new tourism website visiteastgippsland.com.au.
